BJP President JP Nadda criticized the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government after a disturbing video showing a man viciously attacking a couple in full public view went viral on social media sparking widespread outrage .

BJP president JP Nadda said in a post on X, "A horrific video has come to light from West Bengal, reminding of the brutalities that exist only in theocracies. To make matters worse, the TMC cadre and MLAs are justifying the act."

Nadda further added that the women are unsafe in West Bengal, saying, "Be it Sandeshkhali, Uttar Dinajpur or many other places, Didi's West Bengal is UNSAFE for women."

The West Bengal Police have registered a case and arrested the accused, identified as Tajmul alias JCB, who was allegedly a local TMC leader in Chopra, Uttar Dinajpur district.

Opposition parties, including the BJP, Congress, and CPI(M), have strongly condemned the incident and criticized the state government.

BJP IT Cell head Amit Malviya claimed that the accused is closely associated with Chopra MLA Hamidur Rahaman and accused chief minister Mamata Banerjee of being a "curse for women."

State Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury called the attack barbaric and deplorable, suggesting that such incidents are tarnishing West Bengal's reputation.

Local TMC MLA Hamidur Rahman denied any connection with the accused and distanced himself from the incident. TMC district president Kaniyalal Agarwal attributed the assault to the couple's alleged illicit relationship, which he claimed did not sit well with the villagers.

The TMC has said that they will investigate the matter.
