ITV Emmerdale set for surprise double return tonight after news rips family apart

Emmerdale fans will see two characters return to the village tonight (Thursday 29 August) following an explosive few weeks for their families.

Spoilers for tonight see Arthur Thomas back in Yorkshire following a break from the village, where he travelled to Australia. In upcoming scenes, new couple Gabby Thomas and Vinny Dingle are interrupted by her brother Arthur's return to Mulberry cottage. However, there's more drama ahead when Arthur catches up with his family's drama, where he soon gives former stepdad Jai Sharma a piece of his mind about the impact the divorce procedure stress is having on his mum Laurel Thomas.

Viewers will recall that Jai and Laurel are getting divorced just months after tying the knot. Laurel was horrified over her husband's behaviour, where he made biological father Amit leave the village and he also made him cut other son, Suni, out of any ownership of the HOP, signing over all the shares to just him.

After exposing his behaviour, the two argued where Jai insulted Laurel's late husband, Ashley Thomas, who died in 2017, as she sent him away. While alone, Laurel collapsed and suffered a heart attack. With all of the recent events, Laurel decided to split from Jai and ask for a divorce. Jai hasn't taken the news well and he even decided to set up his is ex Laurel after recently accusing her of trying to take his money. With Arthur now back in the village, he wastes no time in standing up for his mum and confronting Jai.

Meanwhile on tonight's (Thursday 29 August) episode, a soap icon makes an unannounced return to the village. Weeks after fleeing amid heartache, the fan favourite will head back to Home Farm amid a loved one facing turmoil. Kim Tate makes her return finally, weeks on from her fleeing to Dubai amid drama with Rose Jackson.

Before she left, she and Will dumped Rose in the middle of nowhere after her plan to destroy their marriage was revealed. What Kim didn't know was that Will slept with Rose, with neither of them spilling the beans. But Kim appeared to see right through Will and his guilt, convinced something had happened between them. Not only that, but when Rose went missing both Kim and Will believed each other had harmed her.

As things grew bitter between Kim and Will and he refused to admit anything happened with Rose, she fled to Dubai. They haven't spoken since, and in the meantime Will has lost his daughter Dawn who wants nothing to do with him. Dawn found out about Rose and Will paying her to leave, as well as his lies about Rose vanishing. She fled Home Farm with partner Billy and her kids, telling her father to stay away from her for good.

A preview clip for Thursday's episode shows Will in turmoil, hitting the booze in his dressing gown in the middle of the day. His business partner Jimmy King confronts him at Home Farm and things get heated. It's then that Kim walks in and hears the commotion, asking if she can join in with their fight. With that Will reveals things have gone downhill since Kim left, with him clearly struggling.

Kim wants answers though, with Will not sure where to start. She demands to know first what's going on with Jimmy and the haulage firm, but how will she react to the news about Rose and Dawn? Things will escalate next week when Will is blackmailed by a mystery tormentor over recent drama. With him not wanting his affair to be exposed, how far will he go to cover his tracks?
