Commentary
  • Right then, that's all from this game. The action continues on Tuesday, the 3rd of October, with three games lined up. On what will be the final day of the warm-up fixtures, India will take on the Netherlands, Pakistan will lock horns with Australia, and Sri Lanka will square off against Afghanistan. All three games will begin at 2.00 pm IST (8.30 am GMT), but you can join us in advance for the build-up. See you then, cheers!
  • Moeen Ali is in for a chat. Credits the bowlers for restricting Bangladesh on this score. He adds on by saying that he is looking to play his natural game and is seeing the ball well currently. Shares that the pitch is helping the fast bowlers under the light. Ends by saying that he is well-prepared for the first match against New Zealand.
  • Earlier in the game, after opting to bat first, Bangladesh were off to a flier in the first couple of overs. Despite Litton Das and Najmul Hossain Shanto's early departure, Tanzid Hasan kept timing the ball superbly and got his side off to a solid start. After he was dismissed, Mehidy Hasan took the innings forward and stroked his way to a fifty. The rain arrived at the most inopportune time for Bangladesh, and when the play resumed, they had only 7 overs left in their innings. As a result, they had to go for their shots and somehow scrapped their way to 188. For England, Reece Topley stood out with figures of 3 for 23 from his five overs.
  • As far as Bangladesh are concerned, Mustafizur Rahman set the tone early for them with the wicket of Dawid Malan. After this wicket, the pacers were a bit wayward in their lines and lengths and were taken to the cleaners by Bairstow. However, they quickly corrected themselves and kept picking wickets at regular intervals. Having put England in a spot of bother, Bangladesh had their tails up but no scoreboard pressure meant that they ended up on the losing side this evening. Despite the loss, Shakib Al Hasan will be pleased with how his pacers bowled against a strong English batting unit.
  • England have romped to a comprehensive victory over Bangladesh! Jos Buttler's men get over the line with more than 12 overs to spare and 4 wickets in hand. In their pursuit of a revised target of 197 in 37 overs, England were off to a rollicking start, courtesy of Jonny Bairstow. He came out all guns blazing and straight away put the pressure back on Bangladesh. Harry Brook employed a similar approach, as did Jos Buttler, but neither of the two batters were able to convert their starts. Joe Root and Moeen Ali then got together and put the England innings back on track. Ali was the aggressor of the two batters, and through his entertaining fifty, he ensured there were no more hiccups in the chase.
