Kalaburagi: MP Radhakrishna Doddamani appealed to the Union civil aviation minister to establish regular flight services connecting Kalaburagi, Delhi, and Bengaluru. During the parliamentary session on Thursday, while discussing ‘The Protection of Interests in Aircraft Objects Bill, 2025', Radhakrishna advocated for the introduction of consistent flight operations between Kalaburagi, Bengaluru and New Delhi to boost the economic growth of the Kalyana Karnataka region.

The govt is facing continuous demands for crucial infrastructure development at Kalaburagi airport, which features the second-longest runway after Bengaluru.

Discussions regarding Delhi-Kalaburagi flights, enhanced Bengaluru-Kalaburagi connectivity, setting up of maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facilities, IndiGo aircraft operations, route expansion, and additional parking spaces have been persistently raised by the leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, yet remain unaddressed.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) authorised all-weather operations, including night operations, from May 17, 2023. Nevertheless, substantial infrastructure improvements are required to implement these authorisations effectively.

The current airport configuration includes only two parking spaces. Following the night-landing simulator assessment, the construction of two additional parking spaces becomes necessary.

Under Article 371-J of the Constitution of India, Kalaburagi district of Kalyana Karnataka received special status, acknowledging its historical disparities and socio-economic challenges. Regular flight connections between Kalaburagi and major cities like Bengaluru and Delhi are vital for regional development.

Through the Speaker, MP Radhakrishna requested the Union minister to enable daily flights on: 1) Bengaluru-Kalaburagi-Delhi (morning) 2) Delhi-Kalaburagi-Bengaluru (evening), alongside addressing pending development projects at Kalaburagi airport requiring immediate attention.
