Heavy Rain and Storms Expected Across North and South Bengal

Kolkata, April 16 The Regional Meteorological Centre in Alipore has issued an orange alert for multiple districts in West Bengal as thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall and strong winds are expected throughout this week. Both North and South Bengal will experience unsettled weather conditions nearly every day, with the likelihood of gusty winds ranging between 30–60 km/h.

Kolkata to See Rain, But No Major Temperature Drop

In Kolkata, sporadic rainfall is forecasted for Wednesday. The minimum temperature in the city was recorded at 27.2°C, slightly above normal, while the maximum temperature on Tuesday stood at 34.2°C, 1.5°C below the seasonal average. Although rain is expected, significant changes in temperature are not anticipated.

Orange and Yellow Alerts Issued for Multiple Districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed parts of South Bengal under an orange alert for possible heavy rainfall and thunderstorms through Saturday. Districts under this warning may witness wind speeds of up to 60 km/h. A yellow alert has been issued for remaining districts with milder weather concerns.

On Thursday, the districts of North 24 Parganas, East and West Bardhaman, Murshidabad, Nadia, and Birbhum are under an orange alert, while Friday will see yellow alerts in districts like East and West Medinipur, Jhargram, Purulia, East and West Bardhaman, Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Nadia.

Rain and Storm Activity in North Bengal

North Bengal districts including Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, North and South Dinajpur, and Malda are also likely to witness thunderstorms and rain starting Wednesday. On Thursday, all districts of North Bengal could experience localized thunderstorm activity, with winds reaching 30–40 km/h.
