Israeli forces on Friday said that they had killed Araeb el Shoga , a commander of Hezbollah ’s Radwan Forces , during a strike in southern Lebanon. El Shoga was responsible for several anti-tank missile attacks targeting northern Israel , the Israeli military said in statement. The Israeli Air Force ( IAF ) also destroyed missile launchers aimed at soldiers and civilians during the operation, which was part of an ongoing military campaign against Hezbollah.
Apart from the strike on Shoga, Israeli troops coordinated another attack on a building in southern Lebanon where terrorists were operating.
Footage revealed multiple secondary explosions, suggesting the presence of significant weapon stockpiles in the area. The IAF also targeted Hezbollah's weapons depots, launchers, observation posts, and military facilities in southern Lebanon.
This incident follows a series of Israeli strikes in recent weeks that have eliminated several high-ranking Hezbollah officials. The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has intensified since the start of the Gaza war, with Hezbollah engaging in cross-border attacks in support of Hamas. Israel has responded with a broader campaign, bombing Hezbollah strongholds in southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley, resulting in heavy losses for the militant group.
Lebanon’s health Ministry reported that 22 people were killed and more than 100 injured in Israeli airstrikes on Thursday, which hit a densely populated Beirut neighbourhood. Civilians, including a family of eight who had fled from southern Lebanon, were among the casualties. This marks a sharp escalation, as Israel had not previously targeted central Beirut, and concerns are growing over further civilian deaths.
Israel has also targeted Hezbollah’s leadership, including an assassination attempt on senior figure Wafiq Safa. Safa survived the strike, but the attack signals a widening of Israel’s focus on Hezbollah’s security and political figures. Hezbollah’s cross-border rocket fire has killed 53 Israelis, more than half of them civilians, further fuelling the ongoing conflict.
