A teacher was injured in a stabbing attack at a vocational college in the western German city of Essen on Friday, police said.
"According to current information, the teacher suffered stab wounds during the attack," police stated in a statement as reported by the news agency AFP.
The teacher was taken to hospital by emergency services.
A police operation is currently underway in and around the college, authorities added.
German newspaper Bild reported that a pupil suspected of carrying out the stabbing, remains on the run. It is not immediately clear whether others were injured in the incident.
Police in Essen said they would provide further details once available.
