In the aftermath of the Apalachee High School shooting, where 14-year-old Colt Gray allegedly killed four people and injured nine others, new information has surfaced about potential warnings received by the FBI months before the tragedy. A police report from Jackson County, Georgia, obtained by Yahoo News, reveals that concerns about Gray had been raised as early as May 2023, when users on the social media platform Discord reported threats targeting a local middle school.
In May 2023, users on the social media platform Discord alerted the FBI about threats made by someone targeting a middle school in the area. According to the FBI Atlanta division, Jackson County officials investigated these anonymous tips and interviewed Gray, who was then 13 years old, along with his father, Colin Gray.

The father admitted to having hunting guns at their home but denied that his son had unsupervised access to them. Colt also denied making any threats and expressed that he had stopped using Discord due to concerns about hacking. He reportedly said he feared someone could use his information for malicious purposes.

The FBI report concluded that there was no concrete evidence linking Colt or his father to the threats. The Discord account in question had been created after Colt claimed he deactivated his account. The username, written in Russian, referred to "Lanza," possibly referencing Adam Lanza, the perpetrator of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012. Despite these inconsistencies, the investigation could not substantiate the allegations against Colt, and the case was closed.
