Elon Musk Tuesday had a sudden meltdown over Donald Trump's 'big, beautiful bill' against which he had already clarified his stand. But Tuesday's meltdown looked ominous because of the way Musk worded it -- as it signaled a major fallout between him and the administration. Musk has already exited DOGE and criticized the spending bill. "I am sorry, but I just can't stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it," Elon Musk wrote.
"It will massively increase the already gigantic budget deficit to $2.5 trillion (!!!) and burden America citizens with crushingly unsustainable debt," Elon wrote.
The post came as Trump attacked Republican senators who are against it. Kentucky senator Randy Paul opposed the bill because of a debt ceiling increase in it which he said would explode deficits.
"Rand Paul has very little understanding of the BBB, especially the tremendous GROWTH that is coming. He loves voting 'NO' on everything, he thinks it's good politics, but it's not," Trump posted on Truth Social hours ago.
In a separate post, Trump said Paul "never has any practical or constructive ideas." Over the weekend, Trump said that if Paul votes against the bill, "the GREAT people of Kentucky will never forgive him!"
Trump is working the phones and having meetings with senators to try to get his sweeping agenda passed by Congress. The legislation extends Trump's 2017 tax cuts and boost spending for the military and border security -- while making some cuts to Medicaid, SNAP and other assistance programs. It will also add about $3.8 trillion to the federal government's $36.2 trillion in debt over the next decade, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO).
The White House said that the president always knew Elon Musk's view on the bill. "It doesn't change the president's opinion — this is one big beautiful bill and he is sticking to it," White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said.
