Federal agents raided a Portland home on Monday after an individual allegedly aimed a laser at a Customs and Border Protection agency helicopter conducting law enforcement activities and another aircraft in the skies.
FBI director Kash Patel said that all the four individuals located in the house are in the US illegally and now in custody.
"FBI Portland just took down a residence of a suspect who allegedly targeted CBP officers - all four individuals located in the house are in the U.S. illegally and now in custody. Come after law enforcement officers and this FBI will put you away," Kash Patel said in a post on X.
Agents from the FBI Portland Division, with assistance from Homeland Security Investigations and Federal Protective Service, conducted the search, officials said in a news release regarding the Saturday evening incident.
Agents contacted the subject as well as three other residents at the residence, they said. The FBI stated that all four suspects were placed in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement - Enforcement and Removal Operations personnel.
The laser allegedly used was obtained during the investigation, they said. "The federal govt will not tolerate violence against federal officers, nor will we tolerate assaults on personal, commercial, or govt aircraft," officials said, adding, "We cannot comment further on this matter at this time."
