NEW DELHI: The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Wednesday indefinitely suspended its academic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Turkey's Inonu University citing " national security considerations."
"Due to national security considerations, the MoU between JNU and Inonu University stands suspended until further notice. JNU stands with the nation," the premier institute wrote on its X handle.
The MoU between JNU and Inonu University was signed in February 2025. Valid for three years, it was to expire in February 2028.
Inonu University had entered into the academic partnership as part of efforts to boost cross-cultural research and student collaboration.
JNU's action came amid nationwide anger against Turkey and Azerbaijan for supporting Pakistan during the recent skirmishes between the Indian and Pakistani armed forces. To target India, Pakistan used Turkish drones and Chinese missiles, which were successfully intercepted by India's air defences.
