United, say junior doctors as tape hints at 'differences'

KOLKATA: Representatives of junior doctors seeking justice in the RG Kar rape and murder case are under intense pressure from protesters to adopt a hardline stance, particularly regarding the live streaming of their discussions with Bengal government .

This demand was highlighted by the "live streaming" slogan chanted by protesters as their 30-plus team left the "dharna mancha" for CM Mamata Banerjee 's Kalighat residence on Saturday for the now-aborted talks. "The decision we make reflects the desires of the larger group of junior doctors and the public who are now part of the movement," said a junior doctor.

Meanwhile, former TMC Rajya Sabha member Kunal Ghosh released an audio tape on Sunday in which protesting junior doctors were heard expressing sharply different opinions before the team headed to the CM's residence. "People have a right to know what is said in their (doctors') meetings," he argued.

Junior doctors did not dispute the tape's contents but reaffirmed their unity in demanding justice. "We are not concerned about what Ghosh says. He has previously attempted to mislead the public with false information about some junior doctors approaching him. It is his ploy to disrupt our movement," said a doctor.

"Differences of opinion are natural during discussions. This is part of the democratic process," added another junior doctor.
