RAJAHMUNDRY: In what is being seen as the first sign of discord in the NDA alliance in Andhra Pradesh, deputy CM and Tollywood star Pawan Kalyan openly criticised state home minister Vangalapudi Anitha, who belongs to TDP , on Monday over recent incidents of atrocities committed against children in the state.

He even praised UP CM Yogi Adityanath and asked authorities to take a cue from him.

Expressing his frustration over what he saw as "worsening law and order in Andhra," the Jana Sena chief said that the home minister should take responsibility for the incidents. He warned he may "take over the home department" if the situation does not improve.

"I am telling this to Anitha," he said while on a visit to his constituency Pithapuram in Kakinada district. "You are the home minister, I am the panchayati raj and forest and environment minister. Discharge your duties well. I can get the home ministry if I want. If the situation remains the same, I will be forced to take a decision. The situation would be different if I became the home minister," Kalyan said.

He also took on DGP Dwaraka Tirumala Rao and the state intelligence chief, and asked them to take responsibility for such crimes. Asking the police department to ignore caste and religion in punishing criminals, Kalyan said such people do not have any caste or follow any religion.

"If things do not improve, people will start scolding MLAs and ministers when they go out," he remarked, adding that the policy being followed by Yogi Adityanath on criminals in UP should be followed in Andhra as well.

Asking NDA ministers and MLAs to go beyond just seeking votes, he said they should visit social welfare hostels where girls are being sexually harassed.

The TDP gave a guarded response to Kalyan's comments. Urban development minister P Narayana said the CM and deputy CM have the authority to comment on the functioning of any govt department.
