NEW DELHI: Actor and Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP ) MP Kangana Ranaut on Sunday targeted a "Raja babu" (king) for allegedly not being to able come to terms with his defeat in the Lok Sabha polls last year.
Ranaut was taking a jibe at Himachal Pradesh minister Vikramaditya Singh , who comes from royal lineage and lost to her from the state's Mandi constituency.
"Being a 'Raja babu,' he is unable to come to terms with his defeat," she told reporters in Mandi, according to news agency PTI.
Singh, son of Himachal Pradesh's former chief minister Virbhadra Singh, is a scion of the erstwhile Estate of Rampur. He holds the public works portfolio in the Congress government of the hill state.
Meanwhile, Ranaut also criticized Singh's mother Pratibha Singh, the head of Congress party's Himachal Pradesh unit. She accused Pratibha Singh, also an ex-Mandi MP, for "failing" to represent the region's people in the Lok Sabha.
"Pratibha Singh and her family ruled the area for the last 40 years but could not spend a single MP fund in the area. She failed to present the side of the region's people even once in the Lok Sabha," the actor-politician claimed.
'I'm raising issues such as railways, electricity and communication'
Ranaut also shared her vision and listed challenges for Mandi's development, saying she has been speaking about basic issues such as railways, electricity and communication.
"Mandi, with its vast and diverse geographical area, has a lot of potential for development but it also faces challenges like natural disasters. Transport and communication facilities are still not adequately available in remote areas such as Bharmour and Pangi," the BJP MP said.
"There has been a long-standing demand for construction of tunnels and all-weather roads for these areas and these issues are being raised in Parliament," she added.
