PM Modi accepts Meloni's invite to G7 meet in Italy in June

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accepted the invitation of his Italian counterpart, Georgia Meloni , to attend the G7 Summit Outreach Sessions to be held in June in Puglia, Italy .

PM Modi thanked Meloni for the invite when he called to greet her on Italy’s Liberation Day, according to govt. The invitation, midway through Lok Sabha elections, is seen to be in line with the assessment in foreign capitals about Modi being the favourite for the contest.

During the conversation, the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the strategic partnership and exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.

The two PMs also discussed carrying forward the outcomes of India’s G20 presidency, especially support for Global South, to the G7 Summit under Italy’s presidency.

G7 Summit will take place on June 13-15, shortly after the outcome of Indian elections. Earlier in the day, MEA said a G7 invite had been received and that the matter was under consideration. “We know that the G7 meeting is to be held in Italy. We have received the invitation. But, at this point in time, it’s a matter which is under consideration and we will come to know of detailsAs and when we have more details to share with you, we will bring it up to you,” said the MEA spokesperson.
