NEW DELHI: Agitating resident doctors on Tuesday expressed willingness to resume duty once their agreement with CM Mamata Banerjee is implemented even as the Supreme Court asked the state to step up security in every govt hospital within two weeks and create within three days elaborate safety audit mechanism, grievance redressal system and internal committees to inquire sexual harassment complaints in hospitals, reported.

Appearing for the state, senior advocate Kapil Sibal said the chief minister has given her solemn assurance that no coercive or adverse action would be taken against the resident doctors for going on strike, a statement which was promptly made part of the order by a bench of CJI D Y Chandrachud, and Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra.

When Sibal said the state won't take any action against the resident doctors on resuming duty and asked when they would join back, senior advocate Indira Jaising on behalf of resident doctors informed the court that the date would be decided only after the general body meeting of their association scheduled for Tuesday or Wednesday.

Jaising also said that the resident doctors are satisfied by the meeting with the CM and the agreement recorded therein. However, she insisted that the "administrative responsibility for the cover-up attempt must be fixed".
