Jangipur Constituency of West Bengal Lok Sabha Election 2024: Date of Voting, Result, Candidates List, Main Parties, Schedule

NEW DELHI: Voting for the Jangipur constituency in the Lok Sabha elections will take place on May 7, in the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections. Voting in West Bengal is set to take place in all seven phases from April 19 to June 1, aiming to elect 42 members of the Lok Sabha.

The election results will be announced on June 4, 2024. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal, the TMC won 22 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, while the BJP gained notable momentum with 18 seats. Congress won two seats.

Candidates for the Jangipur Lok Sabha constituency include Mortaza Hossain Bokul from INC, Dhananjay Ghosh from BJP, and Khalilur Rahaman from AITC.

In 2019, the Jangipur parliamentary constituency boasted a total of 1,616,213 eligible voters, with 1,304,504 valid votes cast. Khalilur Rahaman of the All India Trinamool Congress emerged victorious, securing 562,838 votes and clinching the seat as Member of Parliament. The Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate, Mafuja Khatun, came in second with a total of 317,056 votes, falling short by 245,782 votes.

In 2014, the Jangipur parliamentary constituency boasted a total of 1,391,656 electors, with 1,119,084 valid votes cast. Abhijit Mukherjee, the Indian National Congress candidate, emerged victorious, clinching the seat with a total of 378,201 votes. Coming in second was Muzaffar Hossain from the Communist Party of India (Marxist), who garnered a total of 370,040 votes, falling short by a margin of 8,161 votes.

The main parties vying for seats in West Bengal include the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and a coalition of Left Front and Indian National Congress.

The model code of conduct came into effect from March 16 and will continue until the completion of the vote counting process on June 4.
