NEW DELHI: It was year 2012 when a young 9-year-old girl met then chief minister of Gujarat Narendra Modi at an event.
During the Swami Vivekananda Mahila Chess Mahotsav, she was felicitated for two medals at Asian under-nine championships.
The event in Gandhinagar was attended by 3,500 women chess players.
Cut to 2024, Vantika Agarwal , who is now India's chess star, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi again. And she gifted a little throwback photo from 2012 to PM Modi .
She is now the double gold medalist in Chess Olympiad and as she met PM Modi, she could not miss the opportunity to tell him how he inspired the 9-year-old girl to win more medals for the country.
"When you encouraged me, I felt really motivated and happy. I decided to give my everything to chess and win more medals for India," she told PM Modi during the meeting.
Talking about PM Modi's personal touch, Vantika said, "He also knew that my birthday is on September 28t. I just could not believe it that he remembered it."
In the recently concluded Chess Olympiad, India's men's and women's teams made history by securing gold medals for the first time in their respective categories, joining the elite ranks of countries to have achieved a double gold in the same edition of the competition.

""I think a country is rich due to its mastery and expertise in every field and vertical, and this makes a country great...There should be a hunger inside us to do something new, something more," he told the players.
