NEW DELHI: The Gulbarga Lok Sabha constituency, one of the 28 in Karnataka, India, was established prior to the 1951 general elections. As per the Election Commission of India 's announcement on March 16, the voting date for the Gulbarga Lok Sabha Constituency Election 2024 is set for May 7 (Phase 3), with the counting and results declaration scheduled for June 4.
Gulbarga Lok Sabha Constituency holds a significant position in Karnataka's political landscape, known for its diverse population and substantial impact on Indian politics. The electorate's enthusiasm for the 2024 elections is palpable. Among the prominent candidates vying for the seat are Dr Umesh G Jadhav from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Radhakrishna from the Indian National Congress (INC).
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP candidate Dr Umesh G Jadhav emerged victorious, securing 620,192 votes and defeating INC's Mallikarjun Kharge, who received 524,740 votes. The BJP garnered 52 percent of the total votes cast.
Historically, the Gulbarga Lok Sabha constituency has been a Congress party stronghold since the first general elections in 1951. The party has won 14 out of the 17 elections held in the region, establishing its dominance. However, the political landscape has undergone notable changes with the rise of alternative political parties, challenging the Congress's long-standing supremacy. The BJP's victories in 1998 and 2019 have disrupted the Congress's hegemony, indicating a shift in the balance of power.
