Gehlot special observer for Amethi

Jaipur: Congress on Monday appointed former chief minister Ashok Gehlot as AICC’s senior observer for Amethi Lok Sabha constituency, where Gandhi family loyalist Kishori Lal Sharma has been fielded against BJP’s Smriti Irani.

Congress also appointed former deputy CM Sachin Pilot as AICC observer for North East Delhi and CP Joshi for Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha constituencies.

Former Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel has been appointed as special observer for Raebareli Lok Sabha seat, where Rahul Gandhi is party candidate. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge approved the proposal to appoint the former CMs as AICC senior observers for the two constituencies.

Cong last Friday announced that Rahul Gandhi, who lost Amethi to Smriti Irani in 2019, will contest from Rae Bareli. His mother Sonia Gandhi vacated this seat after being elected to Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan. tnn
