BJP slams Rahul Gandhi after Pannun backs his remarks on Sikhs

Send Push
NEW DELHI: Secessionist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun lauded Rahul Gandhi 's allegation about Sikhs in India not being allowed to wear turban and kada and visiting gurdwaras as a vindication of the demand for a separate state of Khalistan, drawing a scathing attack on Rahul from BJP which also flayed him for meeting US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar , who has been supporting Pakistan's agenda on Jammu and Kashmir .

Stating that Rahul made the controversial remark to an audience which had many Khalistan supporters, Pannun said, "While addressing the gathering in Washington DC where many pro-Khalistan Sikhs were in the audience, Rahul Gandhi justified Sikhs For Justice's global Khalistan referendum campaign when he said 'fight in India is whether a Sikh will be allowed to wear turban and kada, and go to gurdwara'."

The vocal India-baiter further said, "Rahul's statement on existential threats to Sikhs in India is not only bold and pioneering but is also firmly grounded in the factual history of what Sikhs have been facing under successive regimes in India since 1947 and also corroborates SFJ's stance on the justification for Punjab independence referendum to establish Sikh homeland Khalistan."

BJP was furious, with spokesman Sudhanshu Trivedi saying Rahul's latest remarks confirmed his evolution from someone who'd make "childish comments" to one engaged in "dangerous and mischievous activities". At a presser, Trivedi said, "It is for the first time in the history of India that a leader of opposition has met a declared anti-India lawmaker and expressed his sweet feelings. He has met US lawmaker Ilhan Omar, who is infamous for her anti-India stand and statements."

Referring to Pannun's praise for Rahul, Trivedi said, "With this, Rahul Gandhi has added a new friend in his list of anti-India friends. There is a saying: 'King James I was the wisest fool in Christendom'. In my opinion, the same thing applies to Rahul Gandhi for 'Congressdom'."

Commerce minister Piyush Goyal said, "It seems as if he (Rahul) goes abroad to criticise Indians and his motherland. I condemn the kind of statements and the people whom he is meeting during his foreign trips."
