Jaipur: Nearly a hundred animal activists and animal lovers held a protest at Patrika Gate of Jawahar Circle Sunday evening against the Supreme Court's recent directive to remove stray dogs from public spaces.

"This peaceful protest was not just about dogs — it is about India's soul and the constitutional promise of compassion. We stand united — NGOs, educators, children, and citizens — to say, ‘Justice for one is justice for all — including the voiceless',' stated Mariam Abuhaideri, one of the organisers of the protest.

On Nov 7, the apex court directed local authorities of all union territories and states to remove stray dogs from educational institutions, hospitals, bus stands, railway stations and public sports complexes. The court mandated state govts and municipal bodies to identify all relevant public spaces within two weeks and ensure the removal and relocation of stray dogs within eight weeks.

During the protest, the participants collectively signed a letter to the Chief Justice of India.
