LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh police Sunday arrested four persons in connection with violence that broke out in Maharajganj area of Bahraich during Durga idol immersion on Oct 13. Two were arrested for murder of Ram Gopal Mishra, and two others were held for arson and vandalism that occurred after Mishra was shot.
Police said a review of CCTV camera footage and intelligence gathering showed accused Maruf and Nankau were on the rooftop from where Sarfaraz, allegedly opened fire at Mishra. Police detained the two near a bridge. Sarfaraz, his brother Talim, and three others, were arrested on Oct 17.
In the second case, Sushil Kumar Dwivedi & Mannu were held for indulging in arson and vandalism on Oct 14. Police said they set afire vehicles, house and looted homes across Maharajganj, Maheshpurwa, Jot Chandpara and Parsohana. So far, police have arrested 100 people and lodged 15 FIRs in this connection.
