11 students end lives in Andhra & MP after poor exam results

HYDERABAD/BHOPAL: Seven students - five girls and two boys - in Telangana and four in MP ended their lives after intermediate (class XI-XII) and class X board examination results were announced in both states on Wednesday. Most of the students had flunked one or more papers. In Telangana, TOI found that most of students who died by suicide had opted for science stream and had appeared for their intermediate first-year exams.

A teenager from Medak district failed to clear the chemistry paper for a second time. In Khammam, a teenager who had opted for Physics-Chemistry-Mathematics (PCM) stream could not clear her Maths B paper. A 17-year-old boy in Kollur was found dead on a lake bund while a 16-year-old student from Hydershakote near Rajendranagar, who had lost her mother a few years ago, also took the extreme step after learning about the results.

One case was reported from Mahabubabad, where a girl in Inter second-year failed in her commerce paper.

In MP, two class X students - a girl in Gwalior and a boy in Sehore, both aged 16 - and two from class XII - an 18-year-old in Sikarpura area of Burhanpur, and a 19 year-old tribal student in Khargone - ended their lives. Most of them had failed in maths.

Two other class X students in Betul are on ventilator after surviving suicide attempts.
