Telecom operator Vodafone Idea has announced the launch of its 5G services in Delhi NCR in collaboration with Ericsson. The telco has confirmed that it will roll out the 5G services in all 17 priority circles by August this year. Vi has integrated energy-efficient Ericsson Radio System products, including mid-band Massive MIMO antenna-integrated radios AIR 3268 and AIR 3255. These upgrades enhance spectrum efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and optimise network performance, ensuring seamless 5G connectivity.
Vi's introductory 5G offer includes unlimited data for users with 5G-enabled devices on plans starting from Rs 299. Subscribers can now experience Vi 5G for activities such as streaming, gaming, video conferencing, faster downloads, and real-time cloud access.
In October 2024, Vi awarded Ericsson a contract to upgrade its 4G infrastructure and expand 5G services across several telecom circles, including Delhi, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan. As part of this collaboration, Ericsson has successfully modernized Vi’s network in Delhi, replacing legacy 2G and 4G equipment with advanced, lightweight 5G solutions—without any network disruption.
“The launch of our 5G services in Delhi marks a pivotal step in Vi’s journey to deliver next-generation connectivity to our customers. Partnering with Ericsson, we are modernizing our network with next-gen technology, and equipping our users with the speed, reliability, and capacity needed to thrive in a digitally connected world,” says Jagbir Singh, chief technology officer, Vodafone Idea.
Andres Vicente, head of Ericsson Southeast Asia, Oceania and India, says: “This 5G launch in Delhi reinforces Ericsson’s role as a key partner in Vi’s 5G journey and reflects the strength of our ongoing collaboration towards building a robust digital infrastructure across India. Ericsson remains committed in supporting Vi with advanced and sustainable network solutions to meet the evolving connectivity needs of Indian consumers and enterprises.”
