Sony has released a significant system update for PlayStation 5 consoles, introducing several new features and improvements. The update, version 24.06-10.00.00, is rolling out globally starting today.

The headline addition is a new customizable Welcome hub on the PS5 home screen. This replaces the previous Explore tab and allows users to add widgets displaying information like storage space, controller battery levels, online friends, and more. Users can also personalise the Welcome hub with different background options. However, the feature will have a phased rollout, starting with select users in the U.S. before expanding worldwide over the next 1-2 months.

Other key features in the update include personalised 3D audio profiles for headphones, optimised for each user's hearing, and adaptive charging for controllers on PS5 Slim models, adjusting power supply in rest mode. Users can now also share party chat links via messaging and social media apps, set per-user settings for Remote Play access, and enjoy improved licence restoration, allowing restoration of individual licences.

The update brings various smaller tweaks as well, like simplified access to game activities , improved game hub layouts, and general performance and stability enhancements. For the PS5 Slim and upcoming PS5 Pro, the update enables adaptive charging for DualSense controllers, DualSense Edge controllers, PS VR2 Sense controllers, and the Access controller when connected via USB-C.
