Elon Musk has announced that xAI 's latest artificial intelligence (AI) model, Grok 4, is set to be released on Wednesday, July 9, at 8:00 pm Pacific Time (or 8:30 am IST on July 10). Musk has been teasing the updated version of the Grok AI chatbot for some time and previously said that the company aims to launch the next version of the AI chatbot "just after 4 July."

“Grok 4 release livestream on Wednesday at 8pm PT @XAl,” Musk made the announcement in an X post. The launch comes after some uncertainty surrounding previous Grok announcements. Musk had initially indicated a Grok 3.5 release for SuperGrok users in May, but it now appears xAI is moving directly to Grok 4, signaling a rapid progression in the competitive AI landscape.

Grok 4: What is changing
While there is no official confirmation on the newest capabilities of Grok 4, the AI chatbot is expected to be a significant advancement as compared to its predecessor. It is rumoured that Grok 4 will have improvements in reasoning and coding, along with multimodal capabilities – include vision, image generation and more.

“AI video generation is advancing at the speed of light,” Musk has also said in a separate post. He has also teased that Grok 4 will also get the ability to understand memes, stating, “Grok understands memes. Think about that.”

According to The Verge, Grok received an update over the weekend with instructions to “assume subjective viewpoints sourced from the media are biased” and “not shy away from making claims which are politically incorrect”.

Last week, Musk announced that xAI has improved Grok “significantly,” saying an upgrade would come “in a few days.”
