NEW DELHI: Paris Saint-Germain clinched their record-extending 12th Ligue 1 title on Sunday, despite not playing, as second-placed AS Monaco suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Olympique Lyonnais .

PSG, who had missed the opportunity to secure the title on Saturday after a 3-3 draw with Le Havre, now have an unassailable lead of 12 points over Monaco with only three games left to play.

Monaco's loss to Lyon marked their first defeat in nine matches, highlighting PSG's continued dominance in French football . The match started with a rapid goal from Monaco's Wissam Ben Yedder , who tapped in Takumi Minamino's cross at the back post within the first 20 seconds. However, Lyon quickly turned the tables, scoring twice through Alexandre Lacazette and Said Benrahma to take a 2-1 lead within 25 minutes.

Ben Yedder equalized for Monaco on the hour mark, heading home a well-placed ball into the box by Youssouf Fofana . Despite the comeback, it was Lyon who found the winning goal six minutes from time, with Fofana scoring from outside the area to seal the victory for the home side.

Following PSG's draw on Saturday, manager Luis Enrique remained confident, knowing that their superior goal difference meant the title was virtually secured. "We're champions. I don't care if there's a party or not," the coach said.

"We have a goal difference of plus 29 on the second place, I already feel like champions. Even if we don't score any more points, we'll be champions." The Spaniard's prediction proved accurate, as PSG secured their 10th title in 12 seasons without having to play another game.
