The discussion happened when Brandon Jennings mentioned the 76ers legend Allen Iverson. With Embiid's list of injuries doing the rounds, Jennings indicated to start playing the game instead of making excuses. While talking about Iverson’s talent he mentioned-

Joel Embiid has had a traumatic medical history which even led to missing out on multiple games in the NBA seasons in the past. He had also pushed the Philadelphia-based columnist Marcus Hayes when he spoke about his 4-year-old son and his late brother Arthur.

Joel Embiid’s brother Arthur lost his life in a car accident. The sudden loss of his beloved brother impacted his career and as well as inspired him to start charitable work. As reported by the media outlet Marca. Marcus Hayes wrote about the other side of Joel Embiid, which stated-

"He often says that he wants to be great to leave a legacy for the boy named after his little brother...Well, in order to be great at your job, you first have to show up for work."

Embiid is very critical when it comes to his family and especially his late brother Arthur. Joel even mentioned during an interview with PHLY Sports-

"You can say I suck, you can say whatever you want about me as a player. Don't ever put my dead brother's name in your mouth."

The philanthropic work of the athlete includes a charity named In Memory Of Arthur where he has pledged to around $1 million to the local non profit agencies for the wellbeing of the underprivileged.
