Nagpur: Experienced Australian cagers taught some offensive and defensive lessons to India on their way to registering a crushing 89-point (131-42) victory in the FIBA Asia Cup U-16 championship at Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, on Monday.

With close man-to-man marking, Australia packed Indian point guards while restricting them from taking open attempts.

India took three minutes to open their account, only to see Australia race away with a handy 16-5 advantage at the halfway stage of the first quarter, which they eventually dominated 34-11. The script remained the same for the entire duration as Australia won the remaining quarters 30-11, 32-10, 35-10.

While all the 12 Australian hoopsters recorded their names in the scoresheets, Ansh Tomer (11), Shekhar Rathee (9), and Krishna Sureriya (6) were the notable scorers for India.

With this second successive defeat, India now stares at an early exit from the continental championship after Bahrain stunned Lebanon in a thrilling contest 70-68. In their last league game of Pool A to be played on Tuesday, India now needs to defeat Bahrain by a good margin to stay in contention.
