NEW DELHI: India seamer Harshit Rana is set to be released from the Test set-up and will turn up for Delhi in their next Ranji Trophy fixture vs Assam at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. It is understood that the Delhi and District Cricket Association ( DDCA ) management requested for Rana as they will be without the services of Navdeep Saini , who was named in the India A squad for the tour of Australia.
Rana was named as a travelling reserve for the three Tests against New Zealand and was with the team. He will now get some game time under his belt as he has been travelling with the Indian side for a long time now and last played a fixture during the Duleep Trophy last month. The seamer was part of the India T20I squad vs Bangladesh too but didn't get a game in the three-match series.
Another travelling reserve Nitish Kumar Reddy has already been released and he turned up for Andhra in their last fixture vs Gujarat in Ahmedabad. Even Mayank Yadav is understood to be not with the Indian team anymore and has been told to be ready for the T20I series vs South Africa next month.
22-year-old Rana will now lead Delhi's attack in their must-win home game vs Assam. The Himmat Singh-led unit has just accumulated four points from their first two games vs Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu, and need to up their game in the remaining games to push for qualification. They were lucky to get one point vs Tamil Nadu as the visitors completely outplayed them in all departments but Delhi held on to a draw.
There have been more changes in the Delhi squad as opener Dhruv Kaushik, who injured his hand in the last game, has been ruled out for the next 2-3 games and there have been additions in the pace department too. Divij Mehra will be available for selection and seamer Money Grewal has regained fitness ahead of the third round.
