Anthony Edwards’ bold Football claims spark hilarious banter with Derrick Henry

Sitting alongside Minnesota Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson , Edwards dove into a lighthearted discussion about his hypothetical career in football. Despite dominating the basketball court, he confidently stated that he would have no problem tackling Baltimore Ravens’ powerhouse running back Derrick Henry, even though he wouldn’t exactly “pop him,” but would definitely “hit that s--- for sure.”

This bold statement didn't go unnoticed. Derrick Henry, a four-time Pro Bowl selection and two-time rushing champion, was asked for his thoughts in a video posted on the Ravens' official X account. When prompted to respond to Edwards’ claim, Henry’s humor shone through as he bluntly laughed off the idea. "Do I think that Anthony Edwards could tackle me? Hell no," was his candid reply, drawing amusement from fans.

Edwards, never one to back down, reacted on social media after watching Henry’s response, further fueling the playful banter. Interestingly, when comparing the physical attributes of the two athletes, Edwards and Henry stand quite similar. Edwards, at 6’4” and 225 pounds, is not far behind Henry, who is listed at 6’2” and 247 pounds. However, any attempt by Edwards to take on Henry would likely remind him that tackling the star running back is far different from driving to the hoop for a contested shot in the NBA.

Even seasoned NFL defenders struggle to bring down Henry, and Edwards might be stretching his confidence with his claim. Despite this, Edwards has frequently expressed that his athleticism transcends basketball. Just earlier this week, he hinted at his dream of becoming a two-sport athlete, stating that if he were to win an NBA championship in the next few years, he would pursue a career in football. "Football players can't go play basketball. No way," he confidently remarked, adding that his plans would come to life if he captured a ring within the next three to four years.

For now, however, Edwards’ focus remains on basketball, where he’ll look to lead the Timberwolves into another deep playoff run after helping guide them to the Western Conference Finals last season. Whether he transitions to the football field remains to be seen, but the playful exchange with Henry has certainly brought some extra entertainment for fans.
