Aaron Rodgers future: The QB delays Steelers decision as Brett Favre's advice fuels hopes for a last-minute Vikings offer

Send Push
Aaron Rodgers, one of the NFL’s most decorated quarterbacks, is taking his time deciding on his next move. With retirement looming as one option, his most realistic destination remains the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, sources now suggest that Rodgers is holding out in hopes that the Minnesota Vikings reconsider their stance before he commits to Pittsburgh.

Conversations with Brett Favre influencing Aaron Rodgers’ decision
Aaron Rodgers, 41, has already met with the Steelers, spending over six hours discussing potential plans with head coach Mike Tomlin, general manager Omar Khan, and offensive coordinator Arthur Smith. Despite leaving without a deal, reports indicate that Pittsburgh remains confident about their chances of signing him.

However, according to The Daily Mail, Rodgers has been in discussions with former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre, the very player he once replaced in Green Bay. A source stated, "Aaron has had discussions with Brett, and they have talked about the pluses and minuses of going to Pittsburgh or Minnesota."

Initially, Rodgers was against the idea of joining the Vikings, as it would mirror Favre’s post-Packers career move. But his stance appears to be shifting, as he now hopes Minnesota will reconsider signing him before he commits elsewhere.

Steelers remain patient while Aaron Rodgers explores other options
Despite Rodgers’ interest in Minnesota, the Vikings have shown no strong desire to sign him. Reports suggest they are content moving forward with their young quarterback, J.J. McCarthy, who was selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Meanwhile, the Steelers have not imposed any strict deadline for Rodgers’ decision.

Head coach Mike Tomlin recently addressed the situation, saying, "I don't know that we've approached it from a deadline perspective. Certainly, as I mentioned, you'd like to have settled circumstances, but deadlines don't often bring that to a head."

With the 2025 NFL Draft approaching on April 26, time is running out for Rodgers to make his move. Most expect him to announce a decision before then, but his preference for Minnesota continues to create uncertainty.

While Rodgers continues weighing his options, Pittsburgh remains his most realistic landing spot. If the Vikings refuse to engage, he may have no choice but to sign with the Steelers or retire. Regardless of his final decision, all eyes will be on the four-time MVP as he makes one of the most critical choices of his career.
