According to the Hindu Scriptures, Lord Yamaraj, the god of death visited his sister Yami on this auspicious day after Diwali celebration. Yami got happy seeing her brother and welcomed him with garlands and she applied the auspicious tilak on his forehead and pray for his well being. She also served him his favorite dishes. They both exchanged the gifts. Yamraj also became very happy after seeing her sister's affection towards him. Yamraj said to his sister that the one who receives tilak from his sister on this auspicious day, would never suffer. Since then Yama Dwitiya is celebrated with immense happiness and devotion.

Yama Dwitiya 2024: Puja Rituals

On the sacred day of Yama Dwitiya, sisters apply tilak on their brother's forehead, give them coconut, and pray for the longevity of their brothers. They observe fast and break it in the evening after performing all the rituals. They both exchange the gifts and celebrate this day happily.
