Vat Savitri is one of the most prominent Hindu festival which is celebrated by Hindu married women. On this auspicious day, they observe fast and offer prayers to Banayan Tree for the well being of their husbands. Vat Savitri occurs on Amavasya Tithi in the month of Jyeshtha. Vat Savitri Vrat 2024: Significance
Vat Savitri is one of the most significant festivals of Hindus. This day is considered as an auspicious day when especially Hindu married women worship Banyan Tree for the well being and good health of their husbands. They observe strict fast and recite story of Savitri and Satyavaan. There are two Vat Savitri Vrat, one is observed on Amavasya Tithi and another one is observed on Purnima Tithi. In North India, Hindu women observe fast on Amavasya Tithi and Maharashtra, the fast will be observed on Purnima Tithi.
According to the Hindu Scriptures, Banayan Tree is the most revered and sacred tree and it is believed that Trinity God (Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma) resides in that. As per legends, Banyan Tree is a long lived tree and that is the reason why married women offer prayers to this tree. Hindu women should also offer prayers to Goddess Savitri.
Vat Savitri 2024 : Story
As per Hindu Scriptures, once there was a young woman Savitri who got married to Satyavaan and he had a short life. One day Satyavaan was working in the forest and that time the lord of death, Yamraaj, came to take his life. After some time Savitri found her husband dead and she saw Yamraj. She started following him and asked her husband's life back but Yamraj refused. Yamraj asked her to go back but she refused again. Then Yamraj asked her for three boons, she requested for the father in law's eyesight then the lost kingdom of her father in law in second boon and at last to become a mother of 100 sons in the third one. Yamraj blessed with her with all three boons then left from there but he did not leave her husband's life yet. Savitri again started following him, then Yamraj said he gave all the desired boons but why was she coming after him again, Savitri replied that without granting her husband's life how would she become mother of 100 sons. Yamraj accepted his defeat and returned Satyavaan's life.
Vat Savitri 2024: Puja Rituals
1. Wake up early in the morning and take holy bath.
2. Prepare sattvik food and sweets - semolina halwa and malpua.
3. They wear traditional dresses such as sarees and suits.
4. Women adorn themselves with beautiful jewellery.
5. They are advised to take kalash filled with water, Kaccha soot (white sacred raw thread), haldi, kumkum, and flowers.
6. Worship Banyan Tree by offering water, offer garland, put haldi and kumkum tilak, offer akshat then tie white thread and circumambulate 7 times around the tree.
7. Light an earthen lamp with desi ghee and light incense sticks also and offer sweets.
8. Seek blessings of Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma and pray for the well being of your husband.
9. After coming back to home, seek your elder's blessings by touching their feet.
