Shani Jayanti 2024: Significance

Shani Jayanti holds a great religious, spiritual and astrological significance among Hindus. This day is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Lord Shani. Lord Shani is also famous as Saturn. He is regarded as the ruler of Karma and Justice.

As per Astrology, Shani's influence can be growth-promoting as well as challenging, imparting important life lessons. Lord Shani is seen as a strong god who may lessen Saturn's negative impacts. In order to overcome adversity, lessen the negative effects of Shani Sade Sati (the seven and a half-year period during which Saturn transits through three zodiac signs), and enhance their karmic balance, devotees pray to him to get the desred wish fulfillments.

According to the Hindu mythology, Lord Shani is the son of Chhaya (the Shadow) and Surya (the Sun God). He is renowned for his unwavering justice and strict discipline. It is also believed that Shani Dev was a devoted follower of Lord Shiva. It is considered an inauspicious when Shani Dev looks directly and worshippers are advised not to look directly into the eyes of Lord Shani.

Shani Jayanti 2024: Rituals

1. Wake up early in the morning and take a holy bath in Ganga river as taking holy bath in Ganga riover on Jyestha Amavasya and Shani Jayanti is considered meritorious.
2. Many special puja's are performed to please Lord Shani Dev.
3. People visit Shani Temple and offer coconut, offer mustard oil, offer orchid flowers, light a diya mustard oil diya in front of the idol.
4. Many devotees conduct special puja to lessen the effect of Shani Saadhe Sadhi, Shani Mahadasha, and Shani Dhaiya.
5. In the evening, devotees light a diya with mustard oil under the peepal tree along with black sesame seeds, black urad seeds and black cloth.
