Shani Jayanti holds a great religious and astrological importance in Hindu religion. Shani Dev is considered as the lord of Karma and Justice and give results to people according to their Karma. Shani Jayanti is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Lord Shani Dev. According to the Hindu Scriptures, Shani dev was born to father Surya Dev and Mother Swarna who is also known as Chhaaya. Shani Dev was an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva so he always bless the people who always surrender themselves to Mahadev.
There are so many stories associated with Lord Shani Dev but few are the famous ones. It is believed that once Ravana abducted Lord shani and kept him in prison for long time. One day Hanuman Ji came to him and released him from the prison and Shani Dev showed his gratitude to Lord Hanuman and promised that he would forgive those who will worship Hanuman Ji with devotion.

1. Light a diya - Lighting a diya with sesame seeds oil and mustard oil in front of the idol or under the peepal tree is considered auspicious on this day.
2. Chant Mantras - Devotees must chant various mantras such as Shani Stotram, Shani Beej Mantra and seek blessings of Shani Maharaj.
3. Worship Peepal Tree - People are advised to worship peepal tree on the eve of Shani Jayanti so that they can get relieved from the bad effect of Shani.
3. Donation and Charity - Donation is must for this day and it is belieevd that those wo make donation and do charity on this day, get blessed by Lord Shani.
4. Visit Shani Dev Temple - People can visit the main shani temples and perform Navagraha Puja or Shani Puja on this day which can reduce the bad effects of Lord Shani.
