Each Amavasya has its own importance and rituals to follow. In the month of June, Jyestha Amavasya is going to take place. This day is also celebrated as Shani Jayanti and Vat Savitri . Jyeshtha Amavasya in June 2024: Significance

Amavasya has a great religious significance among Hindus. This day is observed to offer prayers to ancestors and forefathers. Amavasya falls once in a month and people perform various Puja rituals on this day to seek blessings of their ancestors. People from different cities and regions follow their own rituals and tradition. They get involved in various puja rituals associated with ancestors such as performing Pind Daan, Pitru Pooja, Pitru Dosha Shanti Pooja and hawan. Many devotees also do charity and donations.

Jyeshtha Amavasya is considered as one of the main observance. This day holds immense importance and people visit various rleigious places to offer prayers and taking bath in holy Ganga river is also considered meritorious. Feeding Brahmins and needy people is also highly rewarding.

Vat Savitri 2024 on Jyeshtha Amavasya


Vat Savitri is one of the most important festival which is celebrated by Hindu married women for the well being of their husbands. This day is also observe on Jyeshtha Amavasya day. They get dressed in beautiful clothes and do adorn themselves with jewellery and they perform puja to Vat Vriskha or Banyan Tree.

Shani Jayanti on Jyeshtha Amavasya

Shani Jayanti holds a great religious and astrological significance among Hindus. Lord Shani is known as the Lord of Karma and Justice. According to the Vedic astrology, he comes under the nine planets and named as Saturn. This day is dedicated to honour Lord Shani. On this auspicious day Lord Shani was born and people offer their prayer to the Lord and seek blessings by lighting a diya and follow other rituals.

Jyeshtha Amavasya 2024 : Puja Rituals

1. Wake up early in the morning and take bath in Ganga river.
2. Offer Arghya to Lord Surya.
3. Those who are unable to take holy bath Ganga river, they take bath at home and perform various rituals.
4. Prepare sattvik food at home and invite Brahmin.
5. Perform pitru tarpan and feed the brahmin.
6. Offer him clothes and dakshina and seek blessings by touching his feet.
7. Feed dogs, crows, ants, cows on this auspicious day.
8. People must get involved in doing charity - organise water stalls, distributing food, clothes to the needy people.
