In her new book titled Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Grow Old, actress Brooke Shields has spoken candidly about her marriage to tennis legend Andre Agassi.
As reported by Parade and Us Weekly, she shared that she was 'relieved' that they never had children together during their 2-year marriage, as she believed it would not have ended well. In excerpts from the book, Brooke explained that she felt grateful she didn’t become a mother while married to Agassi, writing that it “would have been a disaster.”
Shields further reflected on her reasons for marrying the tennis star in the first place. She admitted that one part of her was attracted to the fact that Agassi was more famous than she was, which allowed her to step away from always being in the public spotlight. Having lived a life under constant attention, she appreciated the chance to blend into the background for a change.
Shields also said that she admired Agassi for being courageous and acknowledged the complex nature of their relationship. Their marriage, which began in 1997, lasted for two years before ending in divorce in 1999.
When Agassi was recently asked about Brooke’s comments and her new book, he responded in a calm and respectful way. The sports star told Us Weekly that he always wished the best for Brooke. He also noted that he hadn’t read much of the book, partly because he didn’t want to be put in a situation where he would have to comment further. Agassi emphasised that he believes in approaching life with love and said, “Love ultimately triumphs, and I make an effort to love everyone.”
Today, both Brooke Shields and Andre Agassi have moved on with their lives. They are now happily married to other partners and have children from those relationships.
