Haryana schools closed : The Haryana government has declared July 31 (Wednesday) a gazetted holiday in the state, resulting in the closure of schools throughout the state, including those in Gurgaon and Faridabad.
The holiday announcement applies to all government and private schools, marking Shaheed Udham Singh Martyrdom Day . According to a media report, a notice from a leading school informed that Wednesday, July 31, 2024, would be observed as a holiday in observance of Shaheed Udham Singh Martyrdom Day, as declared by the Haryana Government.
In December of the previous year, the Haryana government announced the public holidays for 2024. All public offices, schools, and colleges will be closed on July 31, 2024, to honor the sacrifices of Shaheed Udham Singh and other martyrs.
Shaheed Udham Singh and other martyrs were freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the Indian Independence. Shaheed Udham Singh is particularly known for avenging the Jallianwala Bagh massacre by assassinating its mastermind, Michael O'Dwyer.

Meanwhile, in Uttar Pradesh, schools in Ghaziabad and Haridwar will be closed from July 27 to August 2, 2024, due to the Kanwar Yatra. This pilgrimage will bring thousands of devotees to Ghaziabad’s Dudeshwar Nath temple. In Haridwar, the school closure is to manage the influx of Shiv devotees during the Kanwar Yatra. The order specifies that all government and private schools, as well as Anganwadi centers from class 1 to 12, will remain closed during this period.
