Nagpur: The Bhau Kane Memorial award ceremony for the best coach will take place at the Teachers' Cooperative Bank auditorium at Gandhisagar, Mahal, on Thursday. The event is organized jointly by the Navmaharashtra Krida Mandal and Chaitanya Sports Yoga and Cultural Foundation.
Veteran coach Arvind Garud of the Saraswati Kanya team, who has been active in basketball for the past 42 years, will be honored with the Bhau Kane memorial award. The award includes a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh and a memento.
Starting this year, an athletics coach will also be recognized, with Gajanan Thakre being the first recipient. Thakre, who coaches national medalist Kashish Bhagat, will be honored with a prize of Rs 21,000 and a memento.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari will be the chief guest, with special attendance by Central Nagpur MLA Praveen Datke. Psychiatrist Dr Shailesh Pangaonkar, Sunil Chawake, and NMKM president Dhananjay Kane will also be present.
