Kanpur: A man died in celebratory firing during a well-worship ceremony in the Mahoba district on Thursday. Police lodged a report against two suspects and took them into custody. The incident occurred in Rani Laxmibai Nagar, Kabrai on Thursday night when a licensed revolver discharged during a scuffle. The bullet hit a man standing nearby leading to his death. Police seized the licensed revolver.
The ceremony was held at Virendra Verma's residence to celebrate the birth of his son, attended by neighbours and relatives. Om Prakash Dwivedi's licensed revolver was with his son Jitendra, and around midnight, a scuffle during 'harsh' firing broke out among the youths. During the scuffle, the gun discharged, hitting Islam (26) from Kidwai Nagar. The incident caused panic among the attendees.
The injured, covered in blood, was taken to the district hospital, where he died. The deceased's father, Saghir, alleged that Islam's friends took him to the ceremony, where he was deliberately shot. Based on the complaint, police lodged a murder report against Jitendra Dwivedi and Nand Kishore Kushwaha. Additional SP Vandana Singh said that a young man died due to a gunshot during the scuffle. A report was filed based on the complaint, and both suspects are in custody. The police recovered the licensed revolver used in the incident, and an investigation is underway.
