Tirupur: Two days after a college girl student died under mysterious circumstances, the Kamanaickenpalayam police on Tuesday picked up her father and elder brother for questioning.
According to a police officer, D Vidhya, 22, of Paruvai village near Palladam, allegedly died after a steel bureau fell on her at her house on Sunday (March 30), when her parents and elder brother had gone out.
"The family members and relatives buried the body the same day without informing police. Vidhya's lover Venmani, a resident of Tirupur city, lodged a complaint with the Paruvai village administrative officer, stating that she might have been murdered by her father and brother, as they were aware of their affair," a police officer said.
The VAO alerted the Kamanaickenpalayam police, who launched an investigation. On Tuesday, police exhumed Vidhya's body for a postmortem. The body was buried at the same place after the autopsy.
Preliminary autopsy report suggested that the girl died of head injuries. "It might have happened after the steel bureau fell on her. But other possibilities should also be considered. Hence, we picked Vidhya's father and brother for questioning," the officer said.
