Lucknow: The UP govt commenced a comprehensive environmental awareness campaign with students from schools to universities assuming a pivotal role.

The initiative seeks to mobilise citizens through street plays, rallies, competitions and training programmes, with the objective of nurturing grassroot-level environmental consciousness. Preparations are progressing and a formal directive was issued to the director of environment to guarantee the campaign's penetration in every part of the state.

"A prominent feature of the campaign is its inventive approach—artistic awareness. Street plays will illustrate the destructive effects of plastic pollution on rivers, with puppet shows designed to encourage both children and adults. Eco-friendly exhibitions will be displayed at local fairs," said an official source.

The source added, "Schoolchildren will act as the young ambassadors for this drive. Poster competitions will focus on nature-related themes, while speech contests aim to motivate students to present practical strategies for reducing plastic use in households. Environmental quizzes will be organised to assess students' knowledge, with eco-friendly prizes awarded to the winners."

All effective platforms will be utilised to propagate environmental responsibility. The campaign will also harness social media to expand its influence, and informative hoardings will be erected throughout cities and towns.
