Bhopal: An 82-year-old retired postal department auditor died allegedly after being hit by a train on the Subhash Nagar railway track in the Aishbagh police station area on Tuesday morning. Preliminary investigation suggests the incident was accidental.
According to police, the deceased, Ranveer Singh, 82, a resident of Ambedkar Nagar in Aishbagh, retired as an auditor from the Department of Posts. His family informed officers that he suffered a paralytic stroke three years ago. Though he recovered physically, he was left with impaired mental health and had a tendency to wander away from home without informing anyone.
Police said that on Tuesday morning, Singh once again left the house unnoticed. Around 10 AM, police received a report of an elderly man's body found near the Subhash Nagar underbridge. Officers reached the scene and recovered the body, which was then sent for post-mortem examination. While checking the deceased's belongings, police found a bank deposit slip that included a mobile number. Upon calling the number, they contacted Singh's son, who later arrived at the scene and confirmed his father's identity.
Police have registered a case and handed over the body to the family after post-mortem. Further investigation into the circumstances of the incident is underway.
