Lucknow: An FIR was registered on Wednesday against a group of unidentified Lucknow University students for disrupting traffic on University Road during a protest held on April 10.
According to LU outpost in-charge Shishir Kumar Singh, the students have been booked under Section 191(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rioting, Section 126(2) for wrongful restraint, and Section 7 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act, 1932 for using violence and intimidation.
"The investigation is on, and we are in the process of identifying all individuals involved," said Hasanganj station house officer Dilesh Kumar Singh.
The protest had taken place after a few LU students were attacked by another group near IT College crossing. In response, students blocked the road and staged a demonstration outside the vice-chancellor's residence, demanding strict action against the attackers.
Meanwhile, LU authorities issued show-cause notices to two students—Ayush Sharma and Akshat Pandey—for allegedly leading a mob that assaulted a BA student and his friends using sticks, sharp weapons, and pistol butts at IT College crossing on April 10. The university stated that their actions amounted to serious misconduct and criminal behavior. The students have been asked to respond within three working days or face disciplinary action.
LU had earlier suspended eight students on Tuesday for their alleged involvement in violence on the campus on April 9.
