Who Is Laszlo Gendler? Glacier County's DSCC Agent Under Investigation For 'Touching' A Ballot Box

Send Push

After Laszlo Gendler, a DSCC agent, was seen on camera handling a vote box, Crystal Cole, the election administrator for Glacier County, expressed worries about possible ballot manipulation. The event has prompted a municipal probe ahead of the 2024 elections, despite Gendler's assertion that he was verifying the security of the box. Democrats have not yet publicly addressed the topic, which heightens the atmosphere in Montana's crucial Senate and House contests.

Ballot Tampering Allegations EmergeAfter Cole informed the Montana Secretary of State's office about the event, the video was examined. In the video, the person—later identified as Laszlo Gendler—makes two attempts to make contact with a voting box in Glacier County. Cole questioned Gendler, who works for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), after the video caused controversy. Gendler told Cole that he had been dispatched "to see how secure the box was" after Cole got in touch with him. She did, however, voice concerns over the Montana Democratic Party's lack of contact with the local elections office. "On camera, it appears that he was tampering with the box because the MT Dem Party failed to notify the Elections office," Cole said in her report. Gendler’s Role and Response from DSCCAlthough Gendler's involvement was acknowledged by the DSCC, spokesperson David Bergstein stressed that his behavior was inconsistent with the party's protocols. It is forbidden for poll workers to handle vote boxes. Bergstein told Fox News Digital, "This person was trying to make sure a new ballot box was fastened to the wall." He declared that Gendler would no longer be involved in the process and stressed that neither the ballot box nor any of the ballots had been corrupted. Since then, the Glacier County Sheriff has been tasked by the Secretary of State's office to look into the matter further. Gendler was unavailable for comment. Political Ramifications in Key Senate RaceThe Senate campaign between Democratic incumbent Sen. Jon Tester and Republican opponent, former Navy SEAL Tim Sheehy, is one of the most keenly followed fights of the 2024 election season, and this event adds another level of stress to Montana politics. The vote box in question is situated in Montana's First Congressional District, where Republican Representative Ryan Zinke is challenging Democrat Monica Tranel for reelection. Both parties have serious concerns about election security since the results of these contests might have a big impact on control of the Senate and the House. Montana Democratic Party Remains SilentThe Montana Democratic Party has remained silent on the matter in spite of the increasing scrutiny. Cole's worries and their silence have led to more conjecture about the incident's potential effects on election integrity.
