Demetrius Flenory, also known as Big Meech, the co-founder of the criminal network Black Mafia Family, has reportedly been released from prison. The entertainment news outlet The Jasmine Brand reported that Big Meech is now free after 20 years in prison. He was convicted of operating a criminal enterprise- the Black Mafia Family, which operated a network of drug trafficking in the United States- and conspiring to launder money. The Black Mafia Family which brought in close to $270 million through drug distribution starting in the 90s, which was subsequently laundered. Big Meech was handed a 30 years prison sentence in 2008.The Detroit News had reported earlier in 2024 that the convicted rapper could leave prison in 2025, as opposed to his scheduled release year of 2028, after a federal judged reduced his sentence by three years. However, his release has reportedly come even earlier, as per reports.Black Mafia Family, which Big Meech co-founded with his brother, Terry Lee "Southwest Tee" Flenory, was closed down by the FBI in 2008.
Who Is Big Meech? Big Meech, or Demetrius Edward, started the Black Mafia family with his brother in 1985 in Southwest Detroit. The duo got into the business of selling drugs in their school years in Detroit. They reportedly called themselves '50 Boyz' for selling $50 bags of cocaine in Detroit. The Black Mafia Family grew larger through the 90s and established distribution throughout the United States. By the early 2000s, it was one of the largest drug trafficking organisations in the US. They even had connections with several Mexican drug cartels. To wash money that came in from drug trafficking, the Black Mafia Family launched a front music label, called BMF Entertainment.
