Sonakshi Sinha, daughter of legendary actor Shatrughan Sinha, made her debut in Bollywood with superstar Salman Khan's 2010 blockbuster Dabangg. She then went on to star in massy movies such as Rowdy Rathore with Akshay Kumar and Shahid Kapoor starrer R... Rajkumar. In an exclusive interview with Zoom, the Heeramandi: Diamond Bazaar actress spoke about doing "problematic" films in the early phase of her career.

Sonakshi Sinha on why she did 'problematic' projects

The actress said, "As a person, as an artist, you have a responsibility and there are a lot of people who look up to you. And I do stand by the fact that yes, I was young. I was getting the opportunity to be a part of some very big films and nobody in the right mind would've said no at that point of time. So, I did them. But yes, certain things did seem off even at that point. And then people notice it, they talk about it and bring it to your attention. It's criticism, but it's constructive."

"And I can, very clearly see the shift in the roles that I have been playing from Akira. So, I have never said it for the sake of saying it. I am sticking to my words. I don't think I can ever go back to being called 'maal'. I don't think I would want to do that. It's a step that everyone needs to take. Everyone grows up and needs to evolve," she added.

For those unversed, Sinha was called 'maal' by Akshay in their comedy flick Rowdy Rathore.

Currently, the actress is garnering praise for her phenomenal performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's OTT project Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. The web show also features Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjeeda Shaikh and others.
