Ace Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic and the retiring Rafael Nadal will take on each other in a classic face-off at the Six Kings Slam on Saturday, October 19 in Riyadh. It will be the 61st time that two of the best players of this era will face each other and is going to be their final encounter against each other, given that Nadal announced his retirement at the end of the Davis Cup Finals tie against Netherlands next month. Jannik Sinner defeated Djokovic 6-2, 6-7 (0), 6-4 in one semifinal, while Carlos Alcaraz beat compatriot Nadal at the other semifinal, at the exhibition event that awards money but no ATP ranking points and is Saudi Arabia’s latest foray into tennis.The match against Alcaraz was Nadal’s first since he announced last week that he would be retiring after playing for Spain in the Davis Cup next month.
Thursday’s match was the first contest for Nadal since his exit from the Paris Olympics in July. He had lost to Djokovic on that occasion and on this weekend as well, the latter would start as the firm favourite. Nadal, an ambassador for the Saudi Tennis Federation and Djokovic were given byes into the semifinals. Looking ahead to Thursday's exhibition, Alcaraz had called Nadal a “legend” and “a really important person for my life, for my career.”Nadal, 38, owns 22 major titles; Djokovic, 37, has won 24, a record for the Open era. The former's unrelenting style of play meant that he etched his name among the greatest ever of the sport.
